On All Souls' Day (2 November), the large pond in Vondelpark transforms into a sea of candlelight. From 18:30, small paper boats are handed out at a tent near the water. Visitors write the name of a loved one they are remembering, set a candle inside, and place the boat gently on the water in their own time and their own way. There is no fixed program — just soft background music, the glow of hundreds of floating lights, and a shared quiet moment of remembrance. The ceremony runs until 20:30. It is free, open to all, and one of the most moving events in Amsterdam's calendar.
