A children’s programme that makes outsiders think the Dutch have finally gone too far

Gewoon Bloot was a Dutch children’s television programme in which children asked nude adults questions about bodies and embarrassment.

Why it matters

The show matters less as television history than as a cultural clue.

It only makes sense in a country where many adults think children should be allowed to talk about bodies, awkwardness, and physical difference with less taboo and less panic than elsewhere. That does not mean everyone loved it. It means the argument around it happened inside a recognisably Dutch framework.

For the wider pattern, see Dutch Culture and Children and Teens.
